Review: Festival bursts with passion 11:30 PM CST on Saturday, November 13, 2004 By MARGARET PUTNAM / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

Flamenco flickers and flames as the music kindles who knows what passions in the dancer. That, of course, describes flamenco at its best, spontaneous and yet stylized.

The 2004 Flamenco Festival, presented by Mundo Cultural Hispano and Conté de Loyo Flamenco Theatre, had its share of bursts of passion Friday night at the Latino Cultural Center with the help of Conté de Loyo and guests Antonio Hidalgo, Sylviana, and Sonya Treviño.

Singer Chayito was a great asset, pouring out anguish and anger with equal fervor.
And each dancer had a distinctive style.
Mr. Hidalgo offered a mix of restraint and fury, with relentless staccato footwork that built in speed and attack.

Sylviana was all color and impetuosity.

Relatively new to flamenco, Delilah Buitrón offered a fresh face, mocking and playful, and moving with a luxurious swooping manner.

Ms. Treviño was a fireball in multicolor ruffled dress and face that radiated defiance.

Ms. de Loyo in a dance simply called "Soleá," she sallied forth with the grandeur of a Spanish queen.

Contributing to the event was stirring music: Bruce Patterson and David Quintana on guitar, Alfredo Gonzales on percussion and singers Chayito , Julie Navar and Miguel Torres.
